init(together): Conference for Women in CS at UC Irvine (April 14, 2013)
Sophia Viklund will be one of the speakers at a brand-new conference for female students in Computer Science, organized with the UC Irvine School of Computer Sciences.
The init(together) Southern California Women in Computing Conference will feature a series of panel discussions and hands-on workshops, a career & participation expo, and a mentorship program. The theme for this conference is tech startups, open source, and Maker culture.
Date: Sunday, April 14, 2013
Time: 9am-6:30pm
Location: UCI Student Center, Irvine, CA 92697
This event is aimed at women who are students or professionals in computing. Experienced professionals in both industry and academia are encouraged to attend as mentors and role models.
Katherine Lo, the president of Women in Information and Computer Sciences at UCI, says:
“From our perspective, there is a huge lack of women in open source and startup tech culture, and few events try to expose young women and college students to those aspects of the tech world. We want to bring the LA Tech community spirit to the female students of Southern California and we hope to inspire many young women to enter the computing fields after showing them the unique opportunities in tech culture.”
